Gettysburg Canon at Sunset

My family and I spent Memorial Day weekend in Gettysburg, PA. One of the best spots to shoot a sunset is on Little Round Top, one of the high vantage points of the Union lines during the battle.  Sitting there watching the sun go down is very peaceful, and judging by the number of people there, we were not the only ones enjoying that view.  This was my third trip to Gettysburg, and it was fitting to take in this national park

on Memorial Day.  So many men died there.  So many were injured.  It went a long way towards solidifying the eventual northern victory, and keeping the United States united.  Our country is what it is today because of the men that fought and died there.  That battlefield is very well preserved, and it makes it a very good place to see and appreciate our history up close, and hopefully to better appreciate what the sacrifices of the men and women of the US Armed Forces around the world have done to keep our country strong and free.

I’m posting two shots here.  Originally, I shot a set of three photos and planned to process an HDR image.

And I did like how it came out.  But, the darker shot of the set of three, without all the processing, is the one I really liked.  I’m posting them both here and letting you be the judge.  The first shot is the HDR image, processed in Corel PaintShop Pro X5 to combine three images together to capture the full range of color in the image.  The second one only had a slight contrast enhancement done, but other than that, it’s pretty much what the camera caught.
